A printer is output device that produce text and graphics on a physical medium such as paper or transparency film. Printed information called hard copy. Exists physical and is a more permanent from of output then that presented on display device (soft copy). A hard copy also called a print out is either in portrait or landscape orientation. A print out in out in portrait orientation is taller than it is wide, with information printed across the shorter with of a paper.

An impact printer forms charters and graphics on a piece of paper by a striking a mechanism against an inked ribbon that physically contacts the paper. Impact printers characteristically are noisy because of this striking activity.
These printers commonly produce Near Letter Quality (NLQ) out put, which is print quality slightly less clear than what is acceptable for business letter.
Companies may use impact printer's routine jobs such as printing mailing labels, envelops and invoices.
None Impact Printer
A non impact printer forms characters and graphics on a piece of paper with out actually striking the paper. Some spray ink while other use heat or pressure to create images.
These printers are much quieter than the impact printer becaue non impact printer doesn’t strike the paper.
Commonly used non impact printer are inkjet photo printer, lesser printer, thermal printer, mobile printer label and postage printer plotters and large format printers.
