Histry Of Internet

You can compare the internet to a spider and its web. The spider's web starts out small and gets bigger and bigger until you have a web. The strings that make up the web of the internet are phone lines and the spider is you and your computer! Even though the web probably will never be finished, that doesn't mean you can't go exploring or have any fun. The internet was made so you could learn, explore and have fun. Although a spider only has eight eyes, the internet has millions of eyes to keep track of things such as the Olympics, the stock market, and hockey. The internet keeps getting bigger and bigger all the time with more than 2 million people joining every month. All of this growth continues to make the internet a REALLY BIG thing.
•    History of the Internet
•    The first internet was ARPANET, it was made up of 37 computers. These computers were so large that they took up whole rooms. The reason for ARPANET was that if we went into nuclear war, and one of the lines became damaged the signals could go down another path.
•    After some time they made a second internet called MILNET. The reason for MILNET was that colleges and universities had taken over ARPNET to exchange and access data between schools; MILNET on the other hand was designed for military use only.
•    Finally they created a third internet which was called NSFNET. This portion of the internet was developed by the National Science Foundation. It had 5 supercomputers where scholars could get access to the latest technology in supercomputers. NSFNET eventually became so popular that it took over the functions of ARPNET.
•    By 1994 U.S. government control of the internet had been replaced by commercial internet networks or IP networks. These networks were operated by big corporations such as IBM, Sprint and Alternet. Outside the U.S.A. many other IP networks have formed making the internet world wide.

•    Our favorite bookmarks

•    People keep bookmarks of their favorite sites so that they are easier to find. When you make a bookmark in your browser it keeps track of the address of the site. It can save you a lot of time!
•    These are some of our favorite kids' bookmarks; they can be fun for all ages. If we don't have your favorite sites, add them to our message board. Remember, they need to be appropriate for kids ages nine to twelve.

•    Virtual arcade is a rad site. It has games that you can play like golf and UFO attack. You also can get an overview of what each game is about. Some of the cool things are the chat room and the area where they let you rate their site. I think you should go to this site for one other reason: the graphics. It is almost like virtual reality. There are 6 rooms full of 6 different games. This site is awesome! On a scale from 1 to 10 it is a 10+.

•    Math Baseball is pretty cool. You try to solve problems like 6+8. You have to answer the equation right and then you can swing. If it is a pretty easy problem you get a single. If it is kind of hard you get a double. If it is really hard you get a triple. You can also choose your own skill level out of multiplication, division and subtraction and addition. It is a good site. On a scale 1-10 it is a 9.

•    Lemonade Stand This is a computer simulation of a kids' lemonade stand. What you try to do is sell lemonade to other people. You try to make more money than you started out with, which is $10.00. You can price your lemonade and pick where you want to sell the lemonade and how many glasses you want to make. You can sell it at different places like the beach, but if you sell at the beach it costs $12.00. I think they had awesome graphics. On a scale 1-10 it is an 8.

•    NHL Some of the things you can do are listen to hockey games, look at records, and you can even e-mail Wayne G. My favorite part is looking at my favorite teams page. Every team has their own page and their own internet home page linked off that page. It also will tell you what games are going on and every once in a while they update you on the score. I liked this site a lot. On a scale from 1-10 it is a 9.

•    eToys We went to this site and found lots of stuff like toys, Star Wars, Babies and a lot more. In the site there is the pick of the month, top 20 bestsellers for 1997 and you can also shop. I liked the site a little. On a scale from one to ten it is a 4.

•    Scholastic This site is about the books Scholastic makes like the Magic School Bus. In the site you will find book fairs, magazines, and a lot of other cool stuff. I think the site is awesome. On a scale from 1 to10 it is a 9.
